This year Bahula Chauth will be celebrated on 3 September 2023. On this day the fast of Heramb Sankashti Chaturthi dedicated to Ganapati will also be observed. Bahula Chauth Significance

Bahula Chauth is considered to be the fast that gives child to the childless. Due to its glory, there is no shortage of money for the fasting person. Material pleasures are attained by the blessings of Shri Krishna. On this day, women keep a fast and worship the cow and its calf. Jaggery and ghee are fed to the cow. After listening to the story, prayers are offered for happiness and peace by circumambulating the cow and the calf. Bahula Chauth

Bahula Chauth fasting story

According to the legend, when Lord Vishnu incarnated as Shri Krishna, the deities expressed their desire to serve him. Then Lord Shri Krishna asked him to take the incarnation of Gopi-Gopikao to join the Leela.

Idhan Kamdhenu cow gave birth to a cow named Bahula from her part and brought her to Nand ji’s cowshed. Bahula Chauth

Shri Krishna had immense love for Bahula. Once God felt like taking the test of Bahula cow and he came in front of Bahula in the form of a lion. At first Bahula was scared. Later prayed to the lion: “O Banaraja, my calf is hungry. I am ready to come back after feeding my calf and become your diet. On this the lion let Bahula go but said to Bahula: “If you do not come, I will remain hungry. On this Bahula cow took the oath of truth and religion. Then Shri Krishna, taking the form of a lion, let the Bahula cow go. Bahula cow came back to the forest after giving milk to the calf to become a lion’s morsel. Then pleased with Bahula’s truthfulness, Shri Krishna appeared in His real form and said: “O Bahula, you have passed the test! From now on, on the Chaturthi of Bhadrapada month, you will be worshiped as mother cow! Those devotees who worship you, they will get children and wealth. Bahula Chauth

How to celebrate Bahula Chaturthi?

  • According to Guru Ma Nidhi Ji Shrimali, on the auspicious day of Bahula Chaturthi, devotees wake up early in the morning, take a holy bath and then bathe the cows as well as the calves and clean their sheds (cow shelters) .
  • Devotees observe Bahula Chaturthi fast on this day. According to religious beliefs, people are not allowed to consume anything cut with a knife or made of wheat.
  • For prayers, devotees visit temples of Lord Krishna or Lord Vishnu.
  • Devotees can also offer prayers at home by worshiping idols or pictures of Lord Krishna or Lord Vishnu. Incense, fruits, flowers and sandalwood are used to worship the deity.
  • Devotees chant mantras of Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna and meditate.
  • During the evening time, devotees worship calves and cows which is known as Godhuli Puja.
  • If devotees do not have any cow then they can also worship the image of cow and calf and pray to them. Bahula Chauth

Moon is also worshiped at night during Bahula Vrat.

On the day of Bahula Vrat, in the evening, the first worshiper Lord Ganesha is worshiped with complete rituals. Adhyaya is offered at night when the moon rises. In many places, on this day Lord Shri Ganesha and Chaturthi Tithi are worshiped by putting betel nuts, milk, sand and Akshat in the conch. The one who observes this Chaturthi gets all his wishes fulfilled. The person gets relief from mental and physical troubles. Those people who do not observe fast for the sake of having a child, they must observe this fast to remove all kinds of problems, difficulties and obstacles.

  Remedies for Bahula Chaturthi

1. On the day of Bahula Chaturthi, after worshiping a cow, it is considered auspicious to donate it to a cow shelter. By doing this, there is never any shortage of money and grains in the house.

2. On the day of Bahula Chaturthi, by donating raw grains, food or clothes to a poor or needy person, your stalled work starts getting completed and the house progresses.

3. On the day of Bahula Chaturthi, make sure to offer Makhan Mishri to Lord Krishna. Don’t forget to put Tulsi Dal in their bhog. By doing this, positivity will remain in the house and the effect of evil forces will end.

4. Offer yellow clothes to Lord Krishna. Doing this will help in increasing progress and respect in your life.
