Pandit NM Shrimali explains Shri Yantra is also known as Shri Chakra. It is called as the mother of all Yantras because of all the other Yantras derived from it. When The Shree Yantra is in the 3-dimensional form, then it is said to symbolize Mt. Meru which is considered the cosmic, mountain at the center of the universe. The Shri Yantra is believed as a place of spiritual pilgrimage. Shri Yantra symbolizes the cosmos or universe at the macrocosmic level and at the microcosmic level, it represents the human body. The first reference to a Shri Yantra is found in an Indonesian inscription that dates to the seventh Century C.E. The origin of Shri Yantra is believed to be in India and then it would have been introduced in Indonesia at a later stage. The Shri Yantra can also be worn as Shri Yantra Pendant.
Pandit Ji says, the Shri Yantra consists of nine interlocking triangles, which are surrounded by two circles of lotus petals with the whole covered within a gated frame which is also called the “earth citadel”. The Shri Yantra consists of nine interlocking triangles that are centered on the Bindu (the central point of the Shri Yantra) and are drawn by the superimposition of five downward pointing triangles, representing Shakti, the female principle and four upright triangles, representing Shiva, the male principle. The nine interlocking triangles form forty-three small triangles each housing a presiding deity associated with particular aspects of existence.
The spiritual journey of a man from the stage of material existence to attaining ultimate enlightenment is depicted in the Shri Yantra. According to Shrimali Ji, The spiritual journey is taken as a pilgrimage in which every step is an ascent to the center, a movement beyond one’s limited existence, and every level is nearer to the goal. Such a journey is depicted in stages, and each of these stages corresponds to one of the circuits of which the Sri Yantra is composed from the outer plane to the Bindu in the center.
