Why are cannabis and datura offered to Lord Shiva?
According to Guru Maa Nidhi Ji Shrimali, the deities and the asuras churned the ocean to get nectar. Many things came out in this which were divided between the gods and the demons. A time came when Halahal means poison came out. To save the entire creation, on the request of the deities, Shiva took him around his neck. Bholenath’s throat turned blue due to this. After this Shiva was named Neelkanth. The poison started climbing up to Lord Shiva’s brain, he was distraught and lay unconscious. This position of Shiva put the deities in a state of doubt. According to Devi Bhagwat Purana, Adishakti appeared and told the treatment of Abhishek with herbs and water to save Bholenath. At the behest of Adi Shakti, Ashwini Kumar removed Bhole Baba’s distraction with medicines like cannabis, datura, bel etc. Bhang, Datura and Bel Patra were placed on his head and Jalabhishek was performed continuously. Due to this, the heat of Shiva’s brain gradually decreased. From that time onwards, cannabis and dhatura were offered to Bhole Baba. Sawan 2023
Cannabis and Datura work as medicine
Guru Maa Nidhi Ji Shrimali addressed Dhatura by the name of Kanak and Sushrut by the name of Unmatta. According to Ayurveda, many diseases can be cured by its use in small amounts. Dhatura is considered to be the cause of Rahu, so by offering Dhatura to Lord Shiva, the defects related to Rahu like Kalsarp, Pitrudosh go away. At the same time, in the scriptures, the three leaves of belpatra are considered to be the symbol of Raja, Sattva and Tamoguna. The meaning behind offering poisonous fruit like Dhatura in Shiva Puja is also to avoid bad behavior and speaking bitter words in personal, family and social life. Instead of keeping the feeling of selfishness, keep a sense of the interest of others. Only then can the life of others be happy with you.
