After this, Pandavas thought of fasting to get back the kingdom at any cost but they had many questions in their mind. Answering, Shri Krishna said that the form of Shri Hari is called infinite and if one observes his fast then by doing so all the troubles in life get eliminated. Another story is popular from this festival; According to that story, a Vashishtha Gotra Brahmin named Sumant lived in this city. He was married to Diksha, daughter of great sage Bhrigu. The name of their child was Sushila. Deeksha soon died so Sumant married a girl named Karkasha. He got his daughter married to Kaundinya Muni but due to Karkasha’s anger, Sushila became completely helpless and when she reached a river with her husband, she saw some women fasting.
