Rules and method of reading Shiv Chalisa

• Brahma Muhurta is considered the best time to recite Shiv Chalisa, so try to wake up before sunrise.
• Wear clean clothes after retiring from bath etc. Always choose light colored clothes in any worship of Lord Shiva. Do not wear dark colored clothes on this day.
• For the recitation of Shiv Chalisa, use a clean white colored seat or a Kush seat.
• To read Shiv Chalisa, it would be better that your face should be in east direction or north direction or north-east direction.
• Before the recitation of Shiv Chalisa, keep Akshat, incense, lamp, white sandalwood, garland and 5 flowers of white aak.
• Use Mishri or Batase to offer food to Lord Shiva. Be careful not to offer white sugar to God. There is no impurity in stone sugar candy, so it is considered best.
• Before reciting Shiv Chalisa, light a lamp of cow’s ghee.
• Instead of reciting, keep a vessel filled with pure water in front of Lord Shiva.
