Story of five forms of Lord Shiva

According to Guru Maa Nidhi Ji Shrimali, once Lord Shri Hari Vishnu assumed the form of a charming teenager. Chaturanan Brahma, multi-faced Anant etc. all the gods came to see him in this very beautiful form. He enjoyed and praised the beauty of the Lord more. Seeing this, Shivji started thinking that if I too had many faces and eyes, I too would have seen this teenage form of God the most. This desire awakened in the mind of Shivji and he took the form of Panchmukh and Panchanan. Lord Shiva’s Panchanan form

Description of the five faces of Lord Shiva

Lord Shiva had five faces – Sadyojat, Vamdev, Tatpurush, Aghor and Ishaan and each face had three eyes. Since then he started being called ‘Panchanaan’ or ‘Panchavaktra’.

Lord Shiva has five faces in all the four directions and the fifth in the middle.

– The face of the west direction of Lord Shiva is Sadyojat. It is clean, pure and free from vices like a child.

– The face of the north direction is Vamdev. Vamdev means the destroyer of vices.

The south face is Aghor. Aghor means one who does reprehensible deeds. Even the one who does reprehensible deeds makes the reprehensible deeds pure by the grace of Lord Shiva.

The name of the former face of Lord Shiva is Tatpurush. Tatpurush means to be situated in your soul.

The name of the vertical face is Ishaan. Ishaan means lord.

Among the five faces of Lord Shankar, the upper face is of milk-like color, the east face is of Tatpurush yellow color, the south face is of Aghor Neel color, the west face is of Sadyojat white color and the north face is of Vamdev Krishna color.

Lord Shiva says in Shivpuran – creation, maintenance, destruction, disappearance and grace – these five acts (actions) of mine are held by my five faces.

The five distinct idols (mukhas) of Lord Shiva are his incarnations taken in different kalpas. With the desire of the welfare of the world, Lord Sadashiv had many incarnations in different Kalpas, in which his Sadyojat, Vamdev, Tatpurush, Aghor and Ishan incarnations are prominent.

These are the five special idols (faces) of Lord Shiva. Explaining the secret of his special idols in the form of five faces, Lord Shiva says to Mother Annapurna – ‘Brahma is my unique devotee. Because of his devotion, I solve his problems by giving darshan in every Kalpa. Lord Shiva’s Panchanan form
