Dakshinavarti Shankh (दक्षिणावर्ती शंख) is the rare and sacred right-turning conch, one of the eight auspicious symbols of Ashtamangala in Jain, Buddhist, and Hindu traditions. While ordinary conches (Vamavarti Shankh) spiral to the left when held with the spire upward, the Dakshinavarti Shankh spirals to the right — a naturally rare formation that occurs in only a small fraction of conchs. According to the shastras, the right-turning spiral represents the path of dharma, the clockwise flow of cosmic creation, and the auspicious turning of time itself. The Dakshinavarti Shankh is associated with Goddess Lakshmi, and worshipping it is believed to bring wealth, prosperity, and the removal of financial obstacles. It is also used in special pujas for ancestors (Shraadh), for invoking feminine divine energy, and for removing the malefic effects of Rahu and Ketu in the birth chart.
