Presently there is a controversy regarding some parts of Sanjay Shiv Puran, the literature of Sanatan Kaal Shiva Bhakti. Ambiguity is observed with respect to the number of its chapters or sections. The parts of Shiva Purana are called Samhitas. According to one opinion, there are six chapters in Shiva Purana, which are Vidyashvara Samhita, Rudra Samhita, Shatrudra Samhita, Kotirudra Samhita, Uma Samhita and Kailash Samhita.

Shiva Purana Chapter 5 – Uma Samhita
Uma Samhita gives information about devotion and fruits of worship of Lord Shiva. Questions related to sin and virtue are answered in Chapter 5 of the Shiva Purana Umasanhita. The detailed story of appearance of Mata Uma and killing of Shumbha Nishumbha is also available in Shiva Purana.

Shiva Purana Chapter 6 – Kailash Samhita
