Pandit NM Shrimali explains Shri Yantra is also known as Shri Chakra. It is called as the mother of all Yantras because of all the other Yantras derived from it. The first reference of a Shri Yantra is found in an Indonesian inscription which dates to seventh Century C.E. Pandit Ji says, the Shri Yantra consists of nine interlocking triangles, which are surrounded by the two circles of lotus petals with the whole covered within a gated frame which is also called as the “earth citadel”. The Shri Yantra consists of the nine interlocking triangles that are centered on the Bindu (central point of the Shri Yantra) and are drawn by the superimposition of five downward pointing triangles, representing Shakti, the female principle and four upright triangles, representing Shiva, the male principle. The nine interlocking triangles form forty-three small triangles each housing a presiding deity associated with particular aspects of existence.

The spiritual journey of a man from the stage of material existence to attaining ultimate enlightenment is depicted on the Shri Yantra. According to Shrimali Ji, The spiritual journey is taken as a pilgrimage in which every step is an ascent to the center, a movement beyond one’s limited existence, and every level is nearer to the goal. Such a journey is depicted in stages, and each of these stages corresponds to one of the circuits of which the Sri Yantra is composed from the outer plane to the Bindu in the center.
