Maa Kali is also known as Kalika. Goddess Kali is one of the nine incarnations of Maa Shakti (Durga, Parvati, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Chandi, Annapurna, Amba, Kali, and Tripurasundari). Maa Kali is considered as the goddess of destruction and death. But in actual sense, Kali brings the death or destruction of the ego. She is considered as the most ferocious of all the Goddesses. Maa Kali is also known by the names of Bhadrakali, Rudrani, Dakshinakali, and Mahakali. The term Kali has originated from the term “Time” and Goddess Kali represents the energy that is beyond time. Maa Kali is considered as the destroyer of the evil forces. It is considered that her birth was to demolish the evils. She is revered as the divine mother of the world. She is also worshipped as the goddess who provides moksha or liberation to her devotees. She is represented as having black skin and a red tongue. Her eyes show anger and death. She possesses four arms; one arm holds the sword, the second holding a Trishool, the third holding the head of a demon Mahishasura and the fourth hand holding a bowl. She wears a garland of skull her neck.
Though Maa Kali is represented as the most ferocious, still she is considered as one of the kindest and most gracious.
