Parad Shankh / Mercury Shankh is Vastu Product. According to the Vedic scriptures, the Shankha is one of the most auspicious objects that emerged from the sea during the Ksheera Sagara Samudra Manthan. Hence it is regarded as the brother of Goddess Lakshmi, the ruler of wealth. Most of the Gods and Goddesses hold the Shankha in their hands. Shankh is one auspicious nine objects of Kubera who is the Lord of wealth.
A majority of conch shells open on the left side, i.e., they have formed anti-clockwise. In contrast, those that open on the right side, i.e., formed clockwise, are rare, but very auspicious to keep in homes. These are expensive. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi resides permanently in white conch shells that open on the right side (Dakshinavarti shank). Both, Goddess Lakshmi and the right-sided conch shell have their origin in the sea and are believed to have the same father. A right-sided conch shell is considered the younger brother of Goddess Lakshmi.
It is believed that whoever owns a pair of right-sided conch shells shall always hold exalted positions and be successful in whatever he does. Misery and failure keep away. Daily reverence and methodical offering of prayers to it shall bring success and fulfillment. When it is placed in a shop, it promotes success in business. At home, it attracts wealth and happiness. Placed with foodgrains, it promotes prosperity. It is truly a symbol of glory and prosperity.
According to Tantric belief, the Parad Shankh / Conch keep away evil spirits and save one from misfortunes or tragedies. The water from the Shankha/ Conch Shell removes the sin and can cure some disease. It also gives liberation from the eternal cycle of birth and death. Parad Items are also useful in Ayurvedic treatment.
Conch has an important place in Indian culture. According to the Brahmavaivarta Purana, the conch is the same form as the moon and the sun. In its center are Varuna, Brahma in the back part, and Ganga and Saraswati in the front. The deity is pleased with the consecration of water or Panchamrit on the Krishna or Lakshmi Deity from the conch.
