Incarnation of Lord Shiva Guru Maa Nidhi Ji Shrimali has told that there are total 19 incarnations of Lord Shiva. His most famous incarnations are Kaal Bhairav and Virbhadra who killed evil people to protect religion. Even today they are protecting the religion. Lord Bholenath, famous by names like Kaal of blacks, Mahakal, is counted in Tridev. He is called the presiding deity of Tantra Mantra. The reason behind the incarnation of Lord Shiva
- Lord Shiva appears in the form of avatars for the purpose of protection of Dharma. When Dharma suffers and Adharma tries to influence the oldest culture and ideals.
- Lord Shiva incarnates to protect his devotees, just as the devotee Prahlad was protected by Lord Vishnu.
- Before the incarnation of Lord Shiva, Brahma, Vishnu and other gods and goddesses were the presiding deities of all dikpalakas and divine powers.
- By taking the incarnation of Lord Shiva, religion is forcefully established on the earth, due to which people get inspiration for progress.
- Lord Shiva in the form of avatars kills demonic forces like Duryodhana, Durasa, Ravana to protect Dharma.

19 Avatars of Lord Shiva
According to Guru Maa Nidhi Ji Shrimali, many incarnations of Lord Shiva are described in Shiv Mahapuran, but very few people know about these incarnations. According to religious texts, there were 19 incarnations of Lord Shiva. These are:
1. Virbhadra Avatar: This incarnation of Lord Shiva took place when Mother Sati sacrificed her body in the Yagya organized by Daksha. When Lord Shiva came to know of this, he uprooted a lock of hair from his head in anger and hurled it furiously on top of the mountain. From the eastern part of that hair, the fearsome Virbhadra appeared. This incarnation of Shiva destroyed Daksha’s yagya and beheaded Daksha by beheading him. Incarnation of Lord Shiva
2. Pippalad Avatar: This incarnation of Lord Shiva has great importance in human life. Redressal of Shani’s pain was possible only by the grace of Pippalad.
3. Nandi Avatar: Lord Shankar represents all living beings. The Nandishwar incarnation of Lord Shankar also follows this and gives the message of love to all living beings. Nandi (the bull) is the symbol of Karma, which means Karma is the basic mantra of life.
4. Bhairav Avatar: In Shiva Mahapuran, Bhairav has been described as the complete form of God Shankar.
5. Ashwatthama: According to the Mahabharata, Ashwatthama, the son of Dronacharya, the guru of the Pandavas, was an incarnation of Kaal, Krodha, Yama and Lord Shankar. It is believed that Ashwatthama is immortal and he still resides on earth. According to Shivmahapuran (Shatrudrasanhita-7), Ashwatthama is still alive and he resides on the banks of the Ganges but where his residence is, it has not been told. Incarnation of Lord Shiva
6. Sharabhavatar: Sharabhavatar is the sixth incarnation of Lord Shankar. Lord Shankar’s form in Sharabhavatar was half of an antelope (deer) and the rest of Sharabha bird (an eight-legged animal described in Puranas which was more powerful than a lion). In this incarnation, Lord Shankar pacified the anger of Lord Narasimha.
7. Grihapati Avatar: Grihapati is the seventh incarnation of Lord Shankar. A sage named Vishwanar and his wife Shuchishmati wished to have a son like Shiva. Muni Vishwanar worshiped the Veeresh Linga of Lord Shiva in Kashi and did severe penance. Pleased with his worship, Lord Shankar appeared in the form of a son from Shuchishmati’s womb. It is said, Pitamah Brahma! He had named that child Grihapati.
8. Rishi Durvasa: Among the various incarnations of Lord Shankar, the incarnation of Rishi Durvasa is also prominent. According to religious texts, Maharishi Atri, the husband of Sati Anusuiya, performed severe penance on the Rikshakul mountain with his wife as per the instructions of Brahma, with the desire to have a son. Pleased with his penance, Moon was born from the part of Brahma, Dattatreya from the part of Vishnu, who popularized the best sannyas method and Munivar Durvasa was born from the part of Rudra.
9. Hanuman ji: Lord Shiva’s Hanuman avatar is considered the best among all avatars. In this incarnation, Lord Shankar took the form of a monkey.
10. Vrishabh Avatar: Lord Shankar had taken Vrishabh Avatar in special circumstances. Lord Shankar killed the sons of Vishnu in this incarnation.
11. Yatinath Avatar: Lord Shankar had rendered the importance of guest by taking Yatinath avatar. In this incarnation, he took the test of the Bhil couple as a guest, due to which the Bhil couple had to lose their lives. Incarnation of Lord Shiva
12. Krishna Darshan Avatar: In this incarnation, Lord Shiva has explained the importance of religious activities like Yagya etc. In this way, this incarnation is completely a symbol of religion.
13. Avdhoot Avatar: Lord Shankar had shattered the ego of Indra by taking the Avdhoot avatar.
14. Bhikshuvarya Avatar: Lord Shankar is the God of Gods. He is also the protector of the life of every living being born in the world. The Bhikshuvarya incarnation of Lord Shankar gives this message.
15. Sureshwar Avatar: Sureshwar (Indra) incarnation of Lord Shankar shows his love towards the devotee. In this incarnation, Lord Shankar, being pleased with the devotion of a small child Upamanyu, gave him the boon of his supreme devotion and immortality.
16. Kirat Avatar: In this incarnation Lord Shankar had tested the bravery of Pandu’s son Arjuna. Incarnation of Lord Shiva
17. Suntan dancer avatar: Shivji had dressed as a sun dancer to ask Parvati’s father Himachal for his daughter’s hand. With Damru in hand, Shivji reached Himachal’s house in the form of a nut and started dancing. Nataraj Shivji danced so beautifully and gracefully that everyone became happy. When Himachal asked Nataraja to beg for alms, Nataraja Shiva asked for Parvati in alms. Himachalraj became very angry on this. After some time, Nataraj disguised Shivji went away himself after showing his form to Parvati. On his departure Maina and Himachal got divine knowledge and they decided to give Parvati to Shivji.
18. Brahmachari Avatar: After sacrificing her life in Daksha’s Yagya, when Sati took birth in the Himalayas, she did intense penance to get Lord Shiva as her husband. In order to test Parvati, Shivji dressed as a celibate reached her. Parvati saw the brahmachari and duly worshiped him. When Brahmachari asked Parvati the purpose of her penance and on knowing, started condemning Shiva and also called him cremation dweller and Kapalik. Parvati got very angry after hearing this. Seeing the devotion and love of Parvati, Shiva showed her his real form.
19. Yaksha Avatar: The Yaksha avatar was assumed by Lord Shiva to remove the undue and false pride of the deities Incarnation of Lord Shiva
